SER BULLETIN: BT2019-005

On July 3, 2019, a revised version of Directive PNG015: Well Abandonment Requirements (Directive PNG015) came into effect.

The in-force version of Directive PNG015 may be found at Well Abandonment Requirements.  (PDF Attached as well)

Please ensure that your organization is aware of and follows the requirements as outlined in Directive PNG015. The revised Directive PNG015 replaces The Oil and Gas Conservation Regulations, 2012 with respect to technical requirements for the abandonment of oil and gas wells in Saskatchewan and includes information on applying to the Ministry of Energy and Resources (ER) for an authorization to conduct a well abandonment.

Please note that the Integrated Resource Information System (IRIS) is currently undergoing changes to fully implement the procedures outlined in Directive PNG015.  Until these IRIS changes are complete, ER requires operators to follow an interim application process, the details of which are available on ER’s Well Abandonment Application web page.
